25 Tales of King Vikrama and the Vetala

Fantasy has long had a place in Indian storytelling, and few tales capture it as playfully as these. Each night, a vetala tells King Vikrama a story in the form of a riddle, and each time, the king must answer correctly or lose his life. How he unravels one puzzle after another, escaping near-death again and again, drives this collection of 25 thrilling tales. Simply told and illustrated, it brings King Vikramaditya's cleverness to life for young readers discovering this corner of India's storytelling heritage. Those who enjoy it may also want to look up its companion volume, 32 Tales of Vikramaditya's Throne.
