Candide

Caught kissing the Baron's daughter Cunegonde, the gullible Candide is thrown out of the only home he has known and into a world he is entirely unprepared for. His mentor Pangloss has taught him that they live in "the best of all possible worlds", where "everything is for the best" - a philosophy Candide clings to as he wanders through disease, injustice and slaughter, testing just how far blind optimism can stretch before it breaks.
