De Profundis

Imprisoned in 1895-7 for gross indecency, Oscar Wilde wrote a long, impassioned letter to his estranged young lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. Later published as De Profundis, it moves between the unbearable pains and blissful pleasures of his love, alongside his reflections on art, Christianity and incarceration. Most editions abridge the letter heavily; this one reproduces it in full, offering a telling insight into the life and times of a charismatic and sensitive author.
