My First Stories from Aesop`s Fables

No one is quite certain that Aesop ever existed, or whether the fables carrying his name were written by one storyteller at all. Mentioned by ancient Greek writers including Herodotus and Aristotle, Aesop has become less a person than a tradition - much like the Panchatantra in its own way - and his name now stands for a particular kind of tale: one featuring animals, ending in a simple moral, and retold across generations. This collection gathers popular stories from that tradition for young readers, told in simple language with colourful illustrations to match, and made for reading and rereading.
