Orlando: A Biography

Orlando begins as a charismatic young nobleman and, partway through the story, mysteriously becomes a woman - living on, unchanged in essence but ever-changing in circumstance, for more than three centuries. Virginia Woolf tells this transformation as a fantastical biography, following Orlando through shifting eras of love, art and society as questions of identity and gender shift just as fluidly as time itself. Playful and inventive, it is both a romp through history and a genuinely searching look at what it means to become oneself.
