Salvador Dali 1904-1989

Along with Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali ranks among the best-known artists of the modern era, as famous for the spectacle of his public life as for his work. This volume brings together over two hundred reproductions spanning his full range as painter, illustrator and filmmaker, alongside the melting watches, burning giraffes and hallucinatory landscapes that made him synonymous with surrealism. A detailed timeline sets his biography against the cultural history of the twentieth century, tracing the story of an artist who was as deliberate about shaping his own legend as he was about his art.
