Spirit of Kumbh

The Kumbh Mela is the largest religious gathering in the world, drawing together faith, belief and custom on an extraordinary scale. This book is a tribute to that gathering: to the legends behind it, to the rituals of the sacred dip and the pursuit of salvation, and to the vast effort that goes into staging it once every few years at four sites across India. It also turns to the Sanyasis whose hatha yoga and discourses give the event its spiritual weight, capturing the Kumbh as a coming together of people around a shared, deeply held faith.
