The Special Guest

Tarapada is a wanderer at heart, restless and unattached, drifting through life without letting people or relationships hold him down. But when a family tries to draw him into the warmth and permanence of a home, does his carefree spirit finally yield to love? This collection gathers eighteen hand-picked stories by the master storyteller, originally written in Bengali and carefully retold in English. Moving through love, sadness, happiness and longing, the tales also offer a quiet window into the social classes, customs and beliefs of India long ago - stories that continue to delight readers, young and old alike.
