Wish Fulfilment

Subal and his son, Sushil, are each certain the other has the better life - so what happens when their wishes come true and they swap places? This gentle tale, with its funny twist, carries a lesson worth sitting with: what looks better from the outside isn't always better to live. It's one of 18 stories hand-picked from Rabindranath Tagore's original Bengali tales and carefully retold in English, moving between love, sadness, happiness and longing, and offering glimpses of the customs and beliefs of an earlier India along the way.
